The Nelson YMCA ~ Out of School Care and Recreation ~ After School Programme
Held at the Brightwater School Hall. This programme is very popular with the children and parents from the area. We provide a pickup service in our YMCA van from Hope and Wakefield School. The programme is open weekdays 3pm to 6pm daily at a cost of $9.50 for 2 hours or $13 for 3 hours. Our Brightwater Holiday Programme run daily from 8am to 6pm at a cost of $35 day or $20 for a half day.

Road Safety Education at School
Every day children and young people may find themselves in hazardous traffic situations. Road safety education prepares them to become safer road users.
The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) has released a booklet titled The Road Map - Road Safety Resources for School Communities which provides information and resources around Safer Journeys for Children. Wakefield School and Community Swimming Pool Key Sales
The Wakefield School and Community Swimming Pool is now open for the 2011/2012 season. Keys can be purchased by contacting Rea Nailer on 541-8528 or Alistair Kennard on 541-8227.
Payment is by cash or cheque only ~ cheques are to be made payable to ‘Wakefield School and Swimming Pool Incorporated Society’. (Please note: you cannot pay for a swimming pool key through the school online banking system).
A Family Season Ticket (key) is $95.00 per family ($100 if not bought by 1 December); Senior Citizens $60.00 (60yrs and over). 5 Day Ticket (key) is $40.00 with $10.00 refund on return of key.

Guiding in Wakefield and Brightwater
Good news for 2012!! Our Brownie Pack will be re-opening in February thanks to Pippin leader Veronique Law who will run the group after Pippins probably on a Thursday - this to be confirmed. The Pack will first take the girls coming up from Pippins and then on a first come first served basis from the school/ community, but will remain small (10) until another co leader comes forward. Could this be you? Our Guide Unit at Brightwater Scout Den will have two new leaders from February, Mrs Josie Macdonald and Ms Sarah Arnold. Date and times to be confirmed and will continue to have a parent rota. Our appreciation for all the hard work our volunteers in the rural district have done for Guiding over the past year and our thanks to Jenna for her strong commitment to the Guides, we wish her well in her new school in North Island. Cancer Society Relay For Life 3 – 4 March 2012

Junior Jammers Basketball
An after school, skill based basketball program designed for Years 1 & 2 and Years 3 & 4 as an introduction to basketball and a pathway to miniball. The Year 1 & 2 sessions are based on FUN but incorporate basic ball and co-ordination skills. Years 3 & 4 sessions will be mostly skill development with the opportunity to play games. Players need no experience. The lessons are
taken by experienced staff on Mondays and will run for 8 weeks of Term 1, 2012 at Jack Robins Stadium, 104 Neale Ave, Stoke. Cost $50.
Junior Development
Years 5 & 6 who show potential and/or a keen interest in basketball can register for 8 coaching sessions at Jack Robins Stadium on a Tuesday 3.45pm – 5pm. It runs from 14th Feb – 3rd April and costs $60.
